How do I mount / anchor my safe?

Your new safe, furniture safe or gun safe should have a stable hold and should never tip over or fall over.

A properly installed safe cannot simply be transported away in the event of a break-in - too much effort scares off the burglar and he may flee without having achieved anything.

PLEASE NOTE:

Tested safes weighing less than 1000 kg must be anchored in the concrete floor or in a solid component (concrete). Many safes fall into this category because they are below this weight class.

The anchoring for unchecked safes must be clarified with the insurance company beforehand.

OUR TIP

Before purchasing a safe / gun cabinet, clarify all questions about fastening and location so that there are no nasty surprises afterwards!

Anchoring for certified safes according to EN1143-1

IN PRINCIPLE, THREE FASTENING POSSIBILITIES ARE DIFFERENTIATED

  • Anchoring on the ground
  • Attachment to the wall
  • Wall in the safe

Verankerung im Boden

  • Check the condition/load-bearing capacity of the subfloor - how is the subfloor (screed) constructed. The anchoring must take place in a concrete floor for a firm and stable hold. Anchoring in the screed is not sufficient!
  • Check that there are no pipes / underfloor heating under the location where the safe is to be anchored
  • Make sure it is set up flush (on one level), a skirting board may have to be cut out or removed to ensure the most secure stand..

Anchoring in the wall

  • The back wall anchoring must be done in a solid component (concrete)
  • In the case of fireproof cabinets (LFS60P), make sure that these models must NOT be anchored in the wall, otherwise, the fire protection will not apply

MASONRY

Tested wall safes according to EN1143-1 must be encased on all sides with at least 10cm concrete.

WHAT IS IMPORTANT?

If you choose a safe that is not EN1143-1 tested, please contact your property insurance company regarding anchoring. They will also inform you of the maximum sum insured.

If you want to anchor the safe in a piece of furniture, then you will opt for a cupboard, a chest of drawers or a desk. If you just put the safe in and don't fasten it, it can of course be easily removed in the event of a break-in. If it is screwed tight, more effort is required to remove it.

  • Make sure that the chosen piece of furniture is the right size / stability (it should be relatively stable, so don't integrate a safe in a filigree piece of furniture or in the valuable Art Nouveau cupboard)
  • Place the safe so that you can reach it easily (e.g. do not install it in the top cupboard compartment so that you do not need a stool / ladder to climb up)
  • Depending on the model, you will find holes in the back or the bottom. The anchoring material for solid components is also included in the scope of delivery for safes that have not been tested, so you will be able to install them properly and safely.

Safe install in house construction

PLAN THE SAFE INSTALL AT THE SAME TIME

The ideal case is when you are planning the house construction and the safe install too. So you are guaranteed to find the right safe & installation location and can take into account that the safe is anchored directly in a solid component.
You know the condition of your walls and floors, you know where all the important lines - electricity, water, etc.) are laid.

If you are planning or have already installed underfloor heating, make sure that no pipe is drilled into during anchoring. The weight of the safe also plays a role. Note the load-bearing capacity of the subsurface. Be sure to get the opinion of a specialist before you cause major damage through installation.

Depending on the model, the bottom and/or rear wall holes are drilled through or pre-drilled. Floor anchoring is standard for all safes. Many models have holes drilled through or pre-drilled in the rear wall. Do not drill your own holes, this will impair the security of the safe and reduce its quality. Drilling on the safe may only be carried out by qualified personnel!
If you are unsure, contact your safe dealer - it is better to ask more than damage and improperly assemble the safe.

Keep your construction documents in a safe place, they provide valuable help with later installations.

CONTRACT INCL. ASSEMBLY SERVICE

If you need help with anchoring, our professionals will be happy to assist you. After the manufacturer-compliant anchoring, a declaration of conformity is issued. This form confirms the professional and proper anchoring of your safe or gun safe. Among other things, it can be important for the insurance company to determine the correct insurance value.
