Weapons of all kinds, especially firearms, should be stored safely so that no unauthorised persons, and certainly not children, have access to them. It is therefore advisable to ensure that the weapon cabinet is installed out of the reach of children. At Rottner Security, professional gun owners, shooters and hunters will find legally compliant weapon cabinets. Whether you are the owner of long guns, handguns and/or ammunition – you will find the right safe for each type of weapon. But it is your responsibility to ensure that it is always locked! And, of course, the weapon may only be stored when unloaded! We offer gun cabinets, gun safes and ammunition cabinets in all sizes, in the best quality and at fair prices.

We use an Economy Service with an estimated delivery time of 3–5 working days. Deliveries are made Monday to Friday, typically between 08:00 and 17:30, to South African street addresses only. A signature is required upon delivery.
Lightweight items will be delivered by our selected courier.
If no one is available to receive the delivery, a notification card will be left with instructions on how to rearrange delivery or collect the item from the nearest depot.
Heavy items will be delivered to the ground floor of your premises, ideally at your front door, where possible.

Safe storage, combined with competency and responsible firearm handling, forms part of the broader criteria for being deemed fit and proper to possess a firearm under South African law. This reliability is essential for obtaining, renewing, or retaining a firearm licence. Non-compliance, especially regarding storage, can result in refusal or cancellation of a licence.
Storage is regulated under the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (Act 60 of 2000), specifically Section 86 and Regulation 86 of the 2004 Regulations. Firearms must be stored in a safe that meets SABS 953-1 standards or in a device that provides at least an equivalent level of security, securely bolted to a wall or floor, and locked when not in use.
Includes technical measures like burglar-resistant doors/windows, alarms, and reinforced containers. These help prevent forced entry and theft.
Focuses on preventing access by children, roommates, tradespeople, or visitors. A certified gun safe ensures safety against accidental or unauthorized use.
The home environment affects storage requirements. Living alone may allow more direct access, while shared homes—especially with children—require stricter security. A loaded firearm in an unlocked drawer is not acceptable in multi-person households.
Quick-access storage (e.g., for home defence) is allowed if the safe meets legal standards. Speed or biometric safes must comply with SABS 953-1 or in a device that provides at least an equivalent level of security and prevents unauthorized access.
Firearms and ammunition can be stored in the same gun safe, provided the safe is secure and compliant with regulations.
Safes should be installed in residential buildings, out of children’s reach—preferably in an office or secure room. For electronic locks, the space should be dry.
Gun safes may be placed in basements or garages if access is restricted. In shared buildings, communal areas are not compliant. SAPS DFOs must approve the location.
Anchoring to the floor or wall prevents tipping or removal during burglary. Most safes include mounting hardware and pre-drilled holes for easy installation.
The safe should be installed in a secure, dry, and child-safe location and must always remain locked.
